Root Canals

Root Canal Therapy to Preserve Damaged Teeth

Our Vancouver dentists offer root canal therapy to help treat symptoms caused by an infected tooth root. A root canal can be an ideal way to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.

When Is a Root Canal Recommended?

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may need a root canal to preserve your tooth.

  • Severe tooth pain or sensitivity to heat or cold
  • Swelling and/or tenderness
  • A recurring abscess on the gums
  • Darkening of the tooth

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, see your dentist for an examination and proper diagnosis.

The Root Canal Procedure

Within each tooth is a pulp chamber which contains the nerves and blood supply for the tooth.

If the tooth's pulp becomes infected due to decay or injury, it must be removed from the canals of each root in order to prevent pain and the spread of infection.

Once the infected pulp has been removed, the chamber is filled with a rubber-based material to seal it.

The tooth is then covered with a dental crown to strengthen and protect it from any future damage.

Endodontic Specialists For Vancouver Patients

When specialized care is required, we refer patients to DMD Endodontics & Microsurgery in Langley and Surrey  for root canal therapy and advanced endodontic treatment.
